Claudia Reig Valera (Valencia, Spain, 1990) has a degree in audiovisual communication from the University of Valencia. Her career as a camera operator, editor and filmmaker has been developed at Barret production company. “Birth in the 21st century” is her third transmedia documentary as a director, after “En la brecha” on gender inequality at work (2018) and “Que tiemble el camino” about people affected by Parkinson’s. She has also directed the feature documentary “Trans resistance” – a portrait of transsexuality in the Valencian Country (2019).
Her newest work created with Àlex Badia – “Giving birth in the 21st century” – is an interactive webdocumentary on respected childbirth, which was premiered on November 19th 2020. The documentary lets the viewer inside of the delivery room of the state hospital of La Plana (Vila-real, Castellón) and their humanized attention to childbirth. It gives the audience an unique opportunity to learn the stories of five women during their pregnancy and join them in childbirth, before and after the coronavirus crisis.
